Surviving the schoolyard: A guide to the best school shoes

The Mommy chronicles:Meet our Sponsors for the Month of May!

As a new parent whose child is soon starting primary school for the first time, I am thrilled that my first born child is going to make this milestone and want to buy the best shoe for him. As a parent it is a turning point in my life, a new chapter with new experiences to be made. I didn't see it as a hurdle; it was just another beginning as soon as I discovered Kickers school shoes.

Surviving the schoolyard: A guide to the best school shoes

What is it that kids do at school that means they go through so many pairs of school shoes? It must be something heavy-duty because no mater how many pairs you buy them, they seem to wear them out very quickly. That is, of course, if they haven’t out grown them first!

It’s because they go through so many pairs that it’s so tempting to buy cheap school shoes. When you can get them from the supermarket for under £10, you think you’re getting a good deal. But in reality, this is what’s known as a false economy. These mass-produced shoes might be cheap but they are also of a poor quality and with the beating they’re going to get from your little terrors, they definitely won’t last long. That means that before you know it, you’re back off to the supermarket to buy a new pair.

What can you do?

There is a way to break this cycle. It involves buying shoes of better quality. You need shoes that won’t fall apart at the first sign of a bit of playground football or lunchtime high jinks. Footwear designs that bear the hallmark of quality, like Kickers school shoes, will outlast any cheap supermarket shoes by months. When your kids grow out of them they’ll still be going strong – very handy if there are any little brothers and sisters coming up behind them.

Playground politics

The other benefit of Kickers is that they have a little bit of credibility when it comes to fashion. We all know that in a perfect world this wouldn’t be important but the fact is that it does matter. The playground can be a tough place, where even something as small as having the wrong shoes can make you a target. But Kickers have been a schoolyard favourite for decades now, and so they are pretty safe territory. Sending your kids off to school knowing they have got everything they need to stand up for themselves and get on is good to know. It’s also a relief to know that they feel comfortable and confident in their uniform. School is a tough environment, in many senses of the word, so it’s important that you give your kids the right equipment to get through the day.
